What this number means

The rate commercial banks earn on money held at the ECB overnight. Since 2019 it has been the ECB's main policy rate — the one that moves short-term market rates, and through them EURIBOR and the price of a Lithuanian mortgage. It changes only when the ECB Governing Council decides, so the chart shows steps rather than daily movement.
